Yet another example of a Beside project shot in Belgium in order to represent an iconic setting… elsewhere in Europe! This time, it is the very posh German island of Sylt that serves as a backdrop of this ambitious psychological TV series (6x45’),co-produced by Beside Productions with the support of Beside Tax Shelter.
Lead production by Network Movie, Studio Zentral for ZDF and New8, shot over 60 days in Belgium, primarily along the Belgian coast, with three days in studio at Lites and a predominantly Belgian crew, the series will also feature visual effects (VFX) produced in Belgium—highlighting the excellence of local talent.
Directed by Lea Becker, Die Düsteren follows in the footsteps of series like Stranger Things, Dark, and The Walking Dead, blending suspense, drama, and supernatural elements.
On an island in the North Sea, a rift between dimensions has opened. Through this breach come the “Sombres”: sinister, almost human doubles who embody the worst versions of ourselves.
These beings, having made the wrong choices at critical moments in their lives, are now trying to take our place.
The only one who can stop them? Soma, a young woman still searching for her origins…
What if the darkest feelings we’ve always repressed came to life?
Set to air on ZDF in 2026.
