Comandante, directed by Edoardo De Angelis and starring iconic Italian actor Pierfrancesco Favina is a gripping work that retraces the story of Salvatore Todaro, a submarine commander during World War II.

This film, which opened the 80th Mostra in 2023, was praised for its moving portrayal of courage and humanity in times of war.

Primarily shot in Italy, the Belgian side of the production played a key role in bringing the film to life: several Belgian actors took part in the cast and Movie FX, a Belgian company specialized in on-set special effects, helped deliver some of the film’s most striking moments.

One particularly impressive sequence was filmed at the LITES water studio near Brussels, where an underwater scene was shot in a pool, with a real submarine shipped from… Italy for the occasion!
