L’Opéra is a French-Belgian 11M€ budget co-pro series directed by female director Cécile Ducrocq.
Set in the shrine of French Dance, the Garnier Opera House, the series used instead the Wallonian Royal Opera which fabulously mocked-up up the Italian styled theatre. With 15 shooting days there it hosted an 80% Belgian crew.
The shoot then moved to Lessine for 21 shooting days, where the Belgian set designing team refurbished an old school to mock up rehearsal rooms and back-stage offices of the Garnier Opera House. Finally, Beside Productions’ in-house producer Gladys Brookfield Hanson was trusted to travel to France to oversee the Paris shooting days (12). A very similar set-up was deployed for both seasons.
With all special effects made by VFX house Benuts, Beside Productions convinced three Belgian Regional funds to financially support the series. Last but not least, Beside Productions negotiated a Season 1 Belgian pre-sale to local VOD platform Proximus.
